The rain continued to fall as it had done for some time now
The drops weighed heavy on my weary shoulders.
Darkened clouds dominated the skies,
Only the flooded field seemed to stretch farther.
He sat beside me and smiled a gentle crooked smile.
Closed his eyes as my rain soaked him through.
Though his radiance was not lost;
It seeped through my flesh and into my blood,
And I breathed.
He leaned over and took the remains of my heart from my leery hands,
Opened his chest and placed the pieces next to his own.
No words were spoken.
No promises to be broken or not. No wishes to be granted, or not.
Just my fingers intertwined with his own.
That day, the rains became nothing more than a gentle mist
And the sun did shine,
Illuminating the flecks in his dark honey eyes.
I turned my face to the warmth I had not felt in so long,
And his name fell from my lips lost in a tender smile.
